Digi pack Advert and analysis of other adverts

Before i created my advert i had to compare and use different artists posters for advertisement so that i could see patterns behind their colours and similarities to things such as photos on their album cover.

For my first comparison i used Kings of Leon. this advert for their new album consists of the exact same photo they used on their album cover. this is a good idea, as it allows the audience to go into a shop see the picture and recognise their cd. where as if it was a different photo, the buyers would need to look harder in order to find it meaning it stands out less and lacks a signature image for the band. the image they have used has been edited in order to be individual and stand out. e.g the way they have taken apart the face and when putting it back together in this image, it doesn't fit. the background colour is green with yellow font, but it still looks simple and tidy. this is key for this genre as most artists with the 'indie' title, like to appear minimalistic. the way they have the photo so unconnected makes it have key points in the image. for example the eye of the individual stands out most to me, making it seem like a connection to the audience.

Secondly i used pendulums advert. this is a good example as it shows how the genre of music can be expressed by an image. they have used a shape that relates to an actual pendulum, and have coloured it in a range of colours to make it seem busy and exciting. these are good themes, as the people buying their music will feel these feelings when listening to their songs. the image appears to look like a maze, which may metaphorically relate to getting lost in their music. in the centre of the image it seems like someone is trapped or lost in the centre of the maze meaning that perhaps once you get into pendulums music you will not stop liking it. linking to 'getting trapped' in the maze. this image is on their advert as its their album cover, again this is good because its recognisable to anyone who sees the advert and may want to buy the cd.

Below is the advert to my digi pack.

i did not use the same photo as i did for my front cover of the digi pack, i changed it because it want a strong enough image. but it still relates as i was able to still incorporate the mask and let the themes flow through. on my front cover for the digi pack, it shows the mask blowing in the trees in the woods, this is a strong image as i have managed photoshop it to make it seem like a 'whirlpool' so it could metaphorically mean the audience will be sucked into the music from this artist. i have carried this technique into the advert by using the 'twirl' tool to blur the face (mask) i did this so it looks unrealistic and something out of a modern fantasy theme. relating to the fear theme. i did this by using the wave tool on photoshop. changing the amount of wave lines and to what extent the wave 'waves' changes the strength of the blur. i didn't blur it too much as i wanted the mask to be recognisable. i also made it black and white so it looks similar to the cd cover.
i have displayed information on the front, such as: ratings from magazines that would talk about bands in the same genre as bloc party, i.e Q and NME. i also wrote the songs name, the artists name and when it will be released. this is basic information that is key to masking a successful advert, as the readers need to be told what the product is. below you can also see an example of the type of font i wanted to use on my advert. i chose this because it looks 'scary' and was under the theme 'distort' on dafont.com. it was simple to download these fonts at college, it involved saving it to their C drive, and then saving it into their fonts folder and opening into the programme you were working with. but i did not end up using it for my advert as i felt it took away the emphasis of the photo, and i wanted that to be the main focus. i chose the white font on the black background as i wanted it to be clear and simple and these colours create that effect as they contrast each other well. i displayed information such as it includes the video, as i am advertising the digi pack not just the song.
