Designs for digi pack

Before i designed and made my final digi pack on the computer, i had to design flat plans for four possible ideas. this was helpful as it made me think about the options i had, in terms of what fonts, and what photos would look better for the video i have made. In our video we used a mask so this was a good starting point as the prop could be involved in the photo making the image immediately relevant.
Below are my four individual flat plans.

This is the first one.

For this i have used a picture i took in the location we filmed our video, it shows someone sitting on a chair, with the mask we used hanging in the trees representing a theme of surrealism and fantasy. on the inside page i have decided to display the lyrics to the song. i want to do this because the song has meaningful, strong violent lyrics that explain why we have given the video the edge it has. e.g words such as war, break, set it off, super strength and goddesses. on the second inside cover i have placed a photo from the woods where we filmed i took this as it is a good shot of setting the location for people viewing the video, listening to the song and imagining the meaning of the lyrics. On the back cover i have put a close up image of the mask we used in the video, it is hanging in the trees to create a sense of being lost and confused. by the image alone. I liked this one design as a whole, as it related alot to the video. Although i did think some criticisms were that the images weren't that interesting in terms of colour, there is also not alot going on so it means there is less to look at on the digi pack.

This is the second one.

In this flat plan i went with a theme that fits more with our original ideas (shown in my first blog entry) of using neon colours, bright lights and lots of movement to express and portray the lyrics behind this song. On the front cover i chose a shot that i had taken of falling water, i could use this shot and adjust its colouring on the computer to make it look more intersting and unusual. I have used the same font idea as the first flat plan, i did this because it is simple and clear. Also looking at bloc partys previous album covers and styles, they like to keep things minimalistic, so i felt this was a theme i should carry out. On the first inside cover in the digi pack, i put a picture that i took of car lights on a dark night reflecting down a road. i got the effect it has from using a slow shutter speed, so that the movement of the light slowed down and appears to blur across the photo. this looks good as the bright lights fit in with the sound of our song, as it is abrupt and blunt making sharp shapes work well. As well as having this photo i wanted to stick with having the lyrics in the digi pack so i will put them in also. On the second inside cover i will put a picture showed in my previous blog of someone standing beside a road by traffic lights, with passing traffic giving blurred lighting effects; creating a strong exciting look. Finally i wanted to keep the back page simple so i thought about using neon lights to create a unique pattern. But on the back i will show information such as what other songs are on the CD and how long the songs last. e.g 3minutes 45 seconds.

This is the third flat plan.

A few months ago i went to Hellingly Mental Asylum as part of my media project. I took alot of photos with intention to use them as projections in the video, but even so i like the way they turned out so i thought about using them for my digi pack. Its not ideal as its in a different location to my video, and is not completely relevant except for the eery feel the building has and maybe in some of the shots i can portray how scary the place was and the fear you may feel from being there. Throughout the whole four sections to the digi pack (front back and inside covers) i have placed an image from Hellingly on each of them. one being of the great hall, another being of bath tubs placed in the corridors and another of a long corridor with a door half open at the end. i want to use these images to create an interesting look and make my digi pak design stand out.

This is my fourth and final design.

For this one i have gone back to using images i took when on location for our video. All of these photos include the prop (the mask) from the video. Having the mask involved with the digi pack creates a theme throughout and would then mean i should have a similar image on my advert. Image one i have shown previously in my latter blog, it is of someone sitting in a chair in the woods (the chair creates distortion and unreal ideas, which is a good theme as it is the way we have approached the initre video) the mask is placed on the back of this persons head and ahead of them is a path leading further into the woods. i like this image as its thought provoking. on the second page i have placed lyrics down the centre, this is to simplify things as i dont want it to be too busy as it might start to appear a mess or jumbled up. Then finally the last two shots involve the mask being placed around the woods in various places, which is good as it looks out of place and will make the listeners/buyers think about the background to the story etc.
